Position: R&D Scientist – Spectroscopy, Imaging & Sensing
At Ovalytix, we’re on a mission to revolutionize poultry farming with ethical, AI-powered innovation. As a venture within the HighTechXL deep tech ecosystem in Eindhoven, we’re tackling one of the most pressing issues in the poultry industry: the mass culling of male chicks and the inefficient incubation of infertile eggs.
Each year, billions of eggs are incubated without knowing whether they’re fertile or will hatch male chicks. This results in enormous ethical concerns, resource waste, and financial losses.
Our solution? A breakthrough, non-invasive in-ovo detection technology that uses AI, advanced spectroscopy, imaging, and VOC sensing to determine both egg fertility and gender — before incubation begins. The impact: reduced costs, optimized hatchery operations, elimination of chick culling, and a significant step forward in animal welfare.
About the Role
We’re looking for a driven and curious R&D Scientist with experience in spectroscopy, imaging systems, and sensing technologies to join our founding team. You’ll play a key role in developing and optimizing our proprietary detection system, helping bring cutting-edge science from the lab to real-world hatcheries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and prototype experimental setups involving spectroscopy, imaging systems, and VOC sensing
- Analyze and interpret spectral and image data to detect egg fertility and gender
- Collaborate with the engineering and software teams on sensor fusion and system integration
- Develop and translate research into functional hardware/software modules
- Contribute to feasibility studies, product development strategy, and IP roadmap
- Support the AI/ML team with high-quality data acquisition and preprocessing
About You
You have..
- A degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Electrical/Optical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
- 3–7 years of hands-on R&D experience
- Deep knowledge of spectroscopy techniques (FTIR, Raman, etc.) and/or imaging systems (optical, infrared, THz)
- Experience working with experimental instrumentation, sensor calibration, and data pipelines
- Strong analytical skills and comfort with complex datasets
- Bonus: experience working on AI/ML applications related to sensor data
