Galuxea is an innovative startup backed by Royal Philips and the HighTechXL venture builder program. We are revolutionizing biofouling prevention with a patented environmentally friendly technology utilizing low-intensity UV-C light integrated into a transparent surface. This groundbreaking solution prevents biofouling in various seawater-exposed applications, making a sustainable impact across industries like water treatment and energy.
The Challenge: Why Biofouling Matters
Biofouling—the growth of organisms on submerged surfaces—poses severe environmental and economic problems. Galuxea addresses this challenge with a disruptive, eco-friendly solution.
Your Role as CTO/Co-Founder
As CTO, you will be the technical cornerstone of Galuxea, responsible for:
- Innovation: Applying UV-C technology to create scalable solutions for industries like water treatment and energy plants.
- Engineering: Designing and developing UV-C LED-based systems, including material selection, mechanical construction, and electronic integration.
- Feasibility Studies: Conducting technical evaluations and advising on sustainable applications.
- Stakeholder Communication: Translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders, including potential customers and partners.
Your Background
We’re looking for a technically skilled and entrepreneurial leader with:
- Education: Mechanical, Material science, Optical, or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent technical background).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in application design involving plastic materials and constructions. Experience in desalination, energy plants, or industrial environments is a plus.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication abilities, leadership qualities, and problem-solving mindset.

- Early-Stage Realities: Initial bootstrapping phase (8-12 months), with growth into a salaried role based on successful grant funding and investments.
- Work Flexibility: Hybrid working setup with 1-2 days per week in Eindhoven during the venture builder program. Occasional travel across Europe may be required.
- Growth Path: Transition from part-time (early 2025) to full-time (mid-2025), with increasing responsibilities as the company scales.
