VitalWear: R&D Design Engineer with Focus on Hardware Design

The company


VitalWear is an early stage startup company based in Eindhoven, developing textiles and
clothing with integrated photonic sensing technology for non-invasive medical applications.
Our vision is to become a leading provider of medical grade wearable sensors that can safely,
continuously, and comfortably measure key parameters of patients. Our first application is
aimed at the early detection and more effective treatment of pressure ulcers, a global
healthcare problem which is growing due to the aging population.
VitalWear is currently recruiting for several key roles to build its technical team and to develop
its first functional prototype.

Role and responsibilities


As an R&D Design Engineer you will be a member of our R&D team and you will be
responsible for designing, realizing, and validating prototype sensor solutions. In particular,
you will be responsible for:


Design:
• Develop/optimize new designs and concepts
• Contribute to continuous improvement based on test results or customer feedback
• Design for High Volume Manufacturing
• Document designs and implement a change control process


Realization:
• Assembly of textile sensors in our in-house laboratory
• Collaborate with partners/suppliers to adapt existing manufacturing processes in the
textile industry to enable large scale integration of optical fibers


Validation:
• Validate designs via small-scale prototypes or simulations
• Analyze and characterize performance via experiments
• Report and document findings to internal team
• Engage in problem solving and contribute with out-of-the-box solutions for design
improvements


Cross-functional contributions:
• Contribute to high quality reports such as patents or publications
• Expand laboratory infrastructure and capabilities
• Extend automation capabilities in laboratories
• Competence sharing & mentoring of newer team-members


We are looking for a person who has/is


• Master degree or PDEng in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering or a
similar discipline


• 5 years of experience in a similar position
• In depth knowledge of hardware design tools
• Experience with Fiber Optics will be considered a plus
• Programming skills are a plus (e.g. Python, C/C++ or MATLAB)
• Strong verbal/written communicating skills in English
• Fluency in Dutch will be considered a plus
• Solid analytical skills
• Hands-on mentality
